CCA timber preservative can extend the life of a radiata
pine post from a few years up to 30 years or more and are
relatively inexpensive compared to most other alternatives.
However there are specific treatment levels that have been
established by the National Registration Authority (NRA),
Australian standards, state legislation and environmental
agencies. The approved CCA level or loading is dependent upon
the 'hazard' to which the timber will be exposed, which is
expressed in the 'hazard classes' H1 to H6. H3 is the appropriate
class for timber most commonly used for domestic purposes
such as decking, fencing, fascia and class H4 for timber to
be used outdoor in ground contact such as posts.
